Magento Open Source 2.3.3 – What’s New and What Changed
Magento Open Source 2.3.3 released in October 2019. Based on the release notes provided by Magento themselves, this new Magento upgrade version includes security enhancements, platform and performance updates and third-party extension enhancements, such as in Klarna Payments, Amazon pay and Yotpo user reviews.
Security Improvements
Payment methods which were included as part of core Magento, for example, Braintree and Authorize.net, have been improved to comply with Payment Services Directive (PSD2) regulations. Some other payment gateways such as eWay and Cybersource have been deprecated in the release so as to comply with the PSD2 SCA regulations which were introduced on 14th September 2019. If you are using these payment providers in your Magento website, Magento recommends, in this version’s release notes, to use the official Magento marketplace extensions for these functionalities instead.
Base Platform Changes
This new version of Magento upgrade (v2.3.3) has been tested with PHP 7.3.8 and PHP 7.2.21 and according to the release documentation, now supports both PHP versions 7.2.x and 7.3.x.
Varnish, which is an open source web application cache, is supported to version 6.2.0 as per Magento 2.3.3 release notes.
Magento is built on the Zend Framework, which is an open source PHP7 framework. It is object oriented and is primarily a collection of PHP based packages. In this version of Magento, certain Zend Framework 2 Components have been updated to use the Long-Term Support (LTS) / Active versions.
The default WYSIWYG editor has been updated to TinyMCE 4.9.5 as per Magento 2.3.3 release notes.
Third Party Extension Integrations
Amazon Pay is now compliant with the PSD2 directive for UK and Germany, according to the release documentation.
The release notes state that in this version, the Klarna Payments module allows you to now disable the sending of customer information and some new options have been added which support B2B transactions in select markets.
The release notes also mention a new integration in this release of Magento, namely Yotpo. This is a tool/service used to gather and manage user-generated product reviews.
